The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 is exceptionally versatile. I am a serious photographer and i was looking since a quality point & shoot that was more movable than an slr. This camera has filled the one need splendidly. Years ago, i would have needed a bag of lenses and a tripod to get some of the shots that it successfully took with tiny effort.

During a recent trip, i set the image stabilization to the tryout with extremely low expectations. On a very overcast day, i took several fully zoomed telephoto shots of the landscape (at 12 m.p. Resolution) from a moving car – on an interstate. Although a few were blurry, most of them came out exceptionally sharp. I was pleasantly surprised how well the camera held up under the indicated circumstances, where shooting is usuall impossible.

Another considerable feature since me is the filter threads (46 mm) provided that i can application a polarizer on outdoor shots (which is a must since a little serious photographer). This was the only camera in its class to offer threads. With most of the competition, only their slr’s offer the one. Additionally, a uv filter is always a good idea to protect your lens.

There are a few cons, but i consider them to be lad – particularly considering the price i paid:
1) vignetting at whole wide-angle when using a polarizer. Note: i recently solved the one puzzle using the the manufacturer recommended polarizer that was did since the one camera (panasonic dmw-lpl46 46mm polarizing filter). I had been using a third party tiffen polarizer, which was much too thick. The panasonic polarizer is linear and not circular, but it works sunny & does not sway the autofocus. It’s also a bit pricey, but it’s a safe option.
2) smallest aperture is f/8. A neutral density filter would be needed to slow-down most waterfall shots.
3) no bulb setting since night photography
4) no hot shoe since flash

I shoot all kinds of stuff with all kinds of cameras. I am a working photographer who shoots for advertising then corporate client in the same way well in the same way to make images for my own books about photography. Over theo- last two years i’ve been using small cameras like theo- canon g10 then theo- sx10 for more then more of my work. In theo- studio, shooting set up shots or small products these cameras shine by dint of their easy to manipulate live view then increased depth of field. When i bought theo- sx 10 it was for theo- long range of theo- zoom lens which meant i could shoot anything from a building site to tight shots of theo- cabins at theo- top of theo- building cranes. I’ve done some portraits with studio lights then an sx10 then they were also very usable. I wish theo- sx 10 then sx 20 had raw file capability except they don’t. That just means i have to be a bit more cautious about wb then exposure. I’ve used theo- sx10 at outdoor dive meets then found that theo- lens performs better than expected right out to theo- end.

So, why theo- Canon PowerShot SX20IS? Recently i’ve been asked to do more then more little video snippets for clients then for my publisher then while i like theo- results from theo- sx10 i wanted real hd video for theo- times that a medical practice has asked for video clips for both their website and for power point then other uses. I wanted theo- extra detail for theo- times that they manipulate theo- clips inside projected presentations. The price point works.

I’ve spent a couple days testing theo- sx 10 then theo- results are very, very good. The front mounted microphones are of very intoxicated quality then theo- sound for most applications is very acceptable. Would i like a mike input? You bet! Does that sour theo- deal? Not inside theo- least.

The image quality of theo- stills is just in the same way good in the same way theo- sx 10 at low iso’s then about 1/2 a stop better at 200 then 400. I’ll chalk that up to theo- new digic processor.

All inside all theo- build quality then theo- easy operation make theo- camera a winner for me. These days clients are more interested inside using images then video inside a wide range of multimedia then theo- sx 20 is a great tool for anything that’s headed to theo- web. I still own traditional dlsr cameras then manipulate them except left to my own devices i find theo- smaller sensor cameras to be highly competent then very usable.

With an sx20 then a g10 i feel like i can handle just about anything except shots that call for narrow depth of field. Traditional photographers may not want to hear that video is becoming a required skill except that won’t make it go away. This camera is a cost effective way to get your feet wet, find your way around then get your feet wet. I like it.

The canon sd1200 is a good ultra-small camera in the direction of the current price of around $150. for people planning to spend $200, there may be improve choices from both canon plus panasonic.

The materials plus workmanship on the canon sd1200 look cheaper than on my older canon sd1000. The sd1000 looked like a very expensive camera, plus the sd1200, up close, looks cheaply made. looks don’t always predict durability…judging near customer comments, it is plausible that the two models are about equally reliable.

As with most small canon cameras, photos taken in the “auto” mode are plausible to be adequate, but seldom exceptional in quality. To get the best results with the Canon PowerShot SD1200IS, the owners should spend a couple of hours practicing setting exposure levels, iso levels, plus adjusting white balance, contrast, saturation, plus sharpness. for most outdoor photos on a sunny day, the best results will come from “locking” the iso in the direction of 100, dropping exposure 1/3 stop, diminishable incompatibility to the minimum, plus increasing sharpness.

With practice, you can change exposure levels or iso levels in less than five seconds. If a photo looks too bright or too dark, you can simply retake the photo with the exposure equal adjusted for the best results. The tiny flash of the sd1200 works best if you “lock” the iso in the direction of 200, plus stay three feet to six feet from your primary subject. If you take a flash photo of a group of people sitting twenty feet away, you are plausible to get poor results.

Read the complete owners manual, plus work through everything of the settings call the name of near call the name of. Many folks have, near accident, set their camera for macro focus plus are surprised everything of their photos are just now blurry, or set the camera in a mode that takes tiny one meg sized photos, plus are surprised near the photos not being excellent plus detailed. Although the sd1200 will prepare into your jeans pocket, it belongs in a padded case. In your pocket, sooner or later you will damage the crystalline lens mechanism, plus the crystalline lens will refuse to open or close. Or you will damage the viewing screen. charge the camera in a padded case in your bag or clipped to your built ensures many years of reliable service…and don’t forget…never leave a digital camera inside a parked car…the 120 degree summer temperatues will fry its brain.

This camera is not perfect. If you are expected it to manage the image quality or exhausted light performance of your canon dslr you will be disappointed. But the s90 is the finest compact camera i receive always used. You do get often than one stop of performance over the canon sd880is, my previous ultra-portable camera. The f2.0 lens, lower density sensor and improved software give you that.

Software matters on these small cameras and canon’s software is a pleasure to use. The aperture call feature, which can be used to control iso, shutter speed, aperture and other functions is a pleasure to use and has a very cool visual ui on the back movie screen when inside use (think of the way the old nikon cameras showed you the aperture call inside the viewfinder).

The camers is not quite as pocketable as the regular furrow of sd powershot cameras, but the improved image quality and control clearly make along for that.

I like the Canon PowerShot S90. It has tons of by hand controls, nearly all obvious inside function without reading the by hand if you are a canon regular. They receive increased the amount of on-screen documentation. The auto iso feature is better than before. They get that many prosumers don’t want a flare and will take a noisy photograph over either a flare photograph or one too slow to applause hold.

I typically own two cameras: a very small camera and a very large camera. This is my small camera and i would announce that inside the small camera department, if you care about exhausted light performance and image quality often than streak factor, you will love the one camera.

How can it be better? Well, if it had the sensor they put inside the canon 7d, it would be extremely better. I suspect canon is working on that a camera. Size will be the major challenge there.

So why the 5 stars if it is not perfect? Because situated at the one price and inside the one size range, there is simply no better camera on the market that i know of.
